THE POET'S EYE : SELECTED POETRY Author: ELLEN KAY/ Sister Ellen Stephen, O.S.H. Credentials: Graduate Poetry Fellowship/MA Stanford University under Yvor Winter Ellen Kay began writing and publishing poetry early in her life. She received a poetry fellowship at Stanford and was mentored by Yvor Winters and was one of his most distinguished graduates along with Donald Hall, Thom Gunn, N. Scott Momaday,Robert Haas along with Donald Justice and J.V. Cunningham. Scarecrow Press under Alan Swallow published her first collection as number 18 in his New Poetry Series. That publication is now a rarity among collectors. Ellen studied drama at the RADA in London and in New York with Actors Studio. Her life then took a suitably dramatic turn that drew her into the religious life. Ellen Kay/ Sister Ellen Stephen (she likes to be called E.S. ) received her B.A at Mills College, and an M.A. in Creative Writing at Stanford University.She has been a sister of the Order of Saint Helena, a Religious Order for women in the Episcopal Church, for more than four decades, often in leadership roles. Ellen Karolina Sofia Key (Swedish:[ˈkej]; 11 December 1849 – 25 April 1926) was a Swedishdifference feminist writer on many subjects in the fields of family life, ethics and education and was an important figure in the Modern Breakthrough movement. She was an early advocate of a child-centered approach to education and parenting, and was also a suffragist.
She is best known for her book on education Barnets århundrade (1900), which was translated into English in 1909 as The Century of the Child.[1]

[edit]Ellen Key was born at Sundsholm mansion in Småland, Sweden, on 11 December 1849.[2] Her father was Emil Key, the founder of the Swedish Agrarian Party and a frequent contributor to the Swedish newspaper Aftonposten. Her mother was Sophie Posse Key, who was born into an aristocratic family from the southernmost part of Skåne County. Emil bought Sundsholm at the time of h
