  • Convicted rapist 'a risk to the community'

Prosecutors have told an Adelaide court that a man who randomly raped three women between 2000 and 2003 would always pose a risk to the community.

Benjamin William Ainsworth, 33, has served four-and-a-half years of a 15-year sentence for the offences.

Ainsworth was arrested in Hollywood in 2004 and extradited to Australia, where he pleaded guilty to raping three women.

The Crown successfully applied to have him detained indefinitely but this was overturned on appeal.

In the Supreme Court, Justice Margaret Nyland heard submissions on the setting of a non-parole period.

Prosecutor Tim Heffernan told the court that Ainsworth's course of conduct made protection of the public a very high priority.

He said there was no easy path to rehabilitation and that Ainsworth would always pose a risk to the community.

Ainsworth's lawyer said his client was a changed man and was doing all he could to prove he could be rehabilitated.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
