This time in my family’s life is bitter sweet. On August 12, we celebrate the birth of my mom, who has lived a life of sacrifice, nurturing and unconditional love for her children.

Today, though, we acknowledge my brother Mike’s anniversary in Heaven. It has been a long and very challenging journey for us, but looking back, we can see the Lord’s hand in it the entire time.

Mike will be remembered for his acceptance of people, big personality and dedication to his family and friends. Although his life ended way too short, and in a senseless way, he lived more in his 25 years on earth than most people live their entire lives.

I can say, without hesitation, that I believe I will see him again but hopefully not today because I have much to do. I remain focused on the Lord’s plan in my life and serving people in an honest and bold way.

The peace I have today, does not come from this world, but from an eternal perspective found only through my faith in Christ.

I often share with others that I would not take back one moment in my life. From poor choices, to failures, victories and even Mike’s passing. The Lord has used all of it to shape me into the man I am today which led me to my wife and children.

Today in 1996, my older brother, Mike, passed on to Heaven. There was no way my family could have prepared for the difficult journey of dealing with his loss to a violent crime. Many times it appeared there was no hope of finding peace, but over time the future was clear through God’s endless attempts of reaching out to us.

I often share our testimony of this tragedy in order to give hope to so many people who face similar struggles.

Although we miss him dearly, we choose to celebrate his life and love for people. We have no doubt we will see him again, but until then, we continue to honor his memory and serve the Lord while on earth. Please never miss an opportunity to express your love to the people in your life and don't take a moment for granted. Life is precious, but short. God bless each of you and your families.
