Alan Alexander Milne was born in London on January 18, He was the youngest of three brothers named, David Barret Milne and Kenneth John Milne. His father, John Vine, was a school teacher and his mother, Sarah Maria, was a homemaker. They married August 27, And to no surprise, Alan Alexander could read at the age of two. Alan Alexander first attended the Henley House, then at Westminster School, and then Cambridge on a mathematics scholarship.
In , Milne went to London to write. In , he became the editor of Punch magazine. He continued on with this position for eight years. Within this time he wrote his first book; three collections of his contributions to the magazine were also published.
In he married Dorothy deb Selincourt, known to friends as Daphne. In , during World War I, he enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and served in France. During his military service he wrote three plays, all of which were seen on the London stage.
After the war he chose not to return to Punch, choosing to have the freedom to write when he wanted too.

Milne began a successful career as a novelist, poet and playwright in the s. His best-known works are his two collections of children's poetry, When We Were Young and Now We Are Six, and his two books of stories about the lovable bear Winnie-the-Pooh and his animal friends.

Milne was born Alan Alexander Milne on January 18, , in London, England. He and his two older brothers were raised in London by their parents, Sarah Marie (née Heginbotham) and John Vine Milne, the headmaster of a private school named Henley House.
Milne was educated at Westminster School in London and at the University of Cambridge's Trinity College. While at Cambridge, he studied mathematics and also edited and wrote for the student magazine Granta. Realizing that writing was his true vocation, he moved to London after his graduation in He began writing for the literary magazine Punch in , and his essays and humorous poetry were published in the magazine through
